Directions to Trails

The following are directions on how to reach the trailhead for each of the featured trails for Passport to Wellness. Also, Bayfield County Land Records Department has a variety of maps including many biking and ATV maps. Check out the Passport to Wellness featured trails under "Trail Maps" section.

1. ASHLAND MURAL WALK

Ashland Mural Walk spans downtown Ashland and can be accessed from multiple points. It is suggested to begin at the intersection of US Hwy 13 and US Hwy 2 (near Walgreens or BMO Harris Bank) and continue west down Main Street for 8 blocks.

2. NORTHERN GREAT LAKES VISITOR CENTER BOARDWALK TRAIL

From Ashland: Drive 2.5 miles west on US Hwy 2 and turn right onto County Hwy G. Travel 100 feet and turn right in to the Visitor Center parking area.

From the West: Continue east on US Hwy 2 and turn left onto County Hwy G. Travel 100 feet and turn right into the Visitor Center parking area.

3. ASHLAND WATERFRONT TRAIL

From Ashland: Drive west on US Hwy 2 and turn right into the Maslowski Beach parking area. Paved trailhead begins at the new Blue Wave on the Bay building.

From the West: Travel east on US Hwy 2 and turn left into the Maslowki Beach parking area. Paved trailhead begins at the new Blue Wave on the Bay building.

4. WASHBURN LAKEFRONT TRAIL

To the West End Entrance (this part of the trailhead is wheelchair accessible): Follow US Hwy 13 into Washburn. Turn south onto 6th Ave W. At the end of this road parking will be found at the trailhead on the left-hand side of the road, or upon the bluff to the right.

To the Marina Entrance (not wheelchair accessible): Follow US Hwy 13 into Washburn. Turn south onto Central Ave. At the fork, take a right into the marina parking lot. The trailhead is just to the right of the marina.

5. HOUGHTON FALLS TRAIL

From Washburn: Take US Hwy 13 north approximately 3 miles. Turn right onto Houghton Falls Road. Follow this road down approximately 0.5 miles and the parking lot will be on your right.

From Bayfield:  Travel south on US Hwy 13 approximately 10 miles and take a left onto Houghton Falls Road. Follow this road down approximately 0.5 miles and the parking lot is on your right.

6. MORGAN FALLS TRAIL

Approximately 6 miles south of Sanborn. From Sanborn, take Hwy. E southwest towards Mason and turn left on Ashland Bayfield (County Line) Road (FR199). Continue straight for 4.2 miles (south). The trailhead will be on your left.

View a map of the trail (PDF). Morgan Falls Trail veers off to the right and is shorter. The longer trail (St. Peter's Dome Trail) goes all the way to St. Peter's Dome and is more rugged and difficult to hike.

7. COPPER FALLS-THREE BRIDGES TRAIL

From Ashland: Travel south on US Hwy 13 for 23.8 miles. Turn left onto County Rd 169 and travel 1.7 miles until you reach the Copper Falls State Park. Turn left to park office (this is where you pay for park access), and continue approximately 1 mile down road for Copper Falls and Brownstone Falls parking.

8. BROWNSTONE TRAIL

Travel into Bayfield on US Hwy 13. Turn east on Manypenny Ave to 3rd Street. Turn right on 3rd Street and park in the paved lot at the Department of Natural Resources building.

9. BAYFIELD FISH HATCHERY TRAIL

From Washburn: Travel north on US Hwy 13 approximately 9 miles. Turn left into the Fish Hatchery parking lot.

From Bayfield: Travel 2 miles south of Bayfield on US Hwy 13. Turn right into the Fish Hatchery parking lot.

10. IRON RIVER NATIONAL FISH HATCHERY TRAIL

Turn north on Highway A in Iron River and travel 6.6 miles. Then turn east on Fairview Road and travel 1 mile to the hatchery entrance.
