This June at the Washburn Cultural Center, come view artwork and poetry from two projects celebrating the 50th anniversary of Apostle Islands National Lakeshore (1970–2020). A is for Apostle Islands features original visual art and poetry for the ABCs from the forthcoming book. Island Intersections contains trios of science summaries and interpretations or responses through visual art and poetry emerging from presentations at the Apostle Islands 50th Anniversary Resource Stewardship Symposium. Dozens of artists and poets have collaborated and contributed to this exhibition, organized by Lucy Tyrrell.
A is for Apostle Islands and Island Intersections both run from June 2–30 in our galleries, and a virtual exhibition is available here. Our art galleries, antiques and collectibles shop, and Vinyl Vault are currently open daily from 12–5pm on weekdays and 12–4pm on weekends!

From Mon. May 10th - Mon. June 7 take the time to dine from the signature menus that make up Washburn’s renowned eateries. Pick up a “passport” when you Eat. Drink. Washburn.

Spend a minimum of $10.00 at any of the participating eateries to have your “passport” stamped. A 3 stamp minimum will qualify a person to be entered in the raffle to win a $50.00 gift certificate to the eatery of the winners choice.
Passports must be submitted to the Washburn Chamber Office (100 W Bayfield St.) no later than Friday, June 11th to be entered in the raffle.

The Northern Great Lakes Visitor Center will be taking reservations for the Kid's Fishing Day event to be held on Friday, June 11. The day kicks off at 9 a.m. and wraps up at 1 p.m. This event is free and open to the public. Give us 30 minutes of your time and we’ll teach you how to fish! First come first served so sign up early to get your spot!

Adult Mental Health First Aid teaches you how to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental illness and substance use disorders. This training gives you the skills you need to reach out and provide initial support to someone who may be developing a mental health or substance use problem and help connect them to the appropriate care.
Limited registration, with priority given to northern Wisconsin residents - register soon to assure a seat as the deadline is May 28th. First Aiders will complete a 2-hour self-paced online class, then participate in a 6-hour Instructor-led Zoom Meeting.
Trainings are offered through the Wisconsin Rural Opioid and Stimulant Engagement (WiROSE),funded by SAMHSA to address opioid and stimulant prevention, intervention, and recovery. WiROSE is a project of the Extension Health and Well-being Institute.
